This is the introduction to a nine-part series examining historical claims by disgraced video game player Billy Mitchell, regarding his claimed perfect score of Pac-Man in 1999, his “Player of the Century” award, and his trip to the Tokyo Game Show.

Billy Mitchell’s and Walter Day’s lies about Pac-Man history and the “perfect score” have grown and grown over the years, fed by self-identified “journalists” who never stopped to question what they were being told. But as we will soon see, lies as big as theirs have a hard time withstanding the light of day.
